The intertextual relation between the three poems is based on two common motifs \u2013 blindness and music. These motifs are traditional in poetry and have various semantic functions. This paper puts forward the idea that the reason for the unfavorable situation is largely due to the poor speech training of politicians. When speaking from official podiums, they often overuse Turkisms, jargonisms and vulgarisms. To demonstrate their pseudoerudition, the orators insert Anglicisms in their speeches showing a complete lack of tact and cite Latin proverbs thus making their speeches still more unbearable. The author stands up for the school contending that the rising generation is spending much less time with their teachers than in front of the TV. A reproach is directed at those native language teachers who turn their Bulgarian language classes into literature analyses. style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>MULTILINGUALISM IN SOFIA: RESULTS OF A SURVEY CONDUCTED AMONG SOFIA CITIZENS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Abstract.<\/strong> The purpose of this article is to generalize the fi ndings of a research on multilingualism conducted in the City of Sofi a under the Languages in Urban<br \/>Communities \u2013 Integration and Diversity for Europe (LUCIDE) project. The research aimed at collecting data on multilingualism\/plurilingualism in the city in<br \/>fi ve spheres: education, the public sphere, economic life, the private sphere, and the urban space. One of the major issues that came up from the research was how residents feel about multilingualism in the city. It seems they like the idea of a multilingual city but cannot relate it to Sofi a based on comparisons with cosmopolitan cities like New York or London. To most of the respondents language diversity encompasses mostly foreign languages and is therefore considered an asset. Very few include in the multilingual scope minority and migrant languages and close to none \u2013 languages of people with disabilities. That aspect of multilingualism is highly sensitive. Another sensitive issue is the effect of multilingualism on the Bulgarian language since there are concerns that multilingualism reduces native language competency and amends the language system and structure. At the local level there are strong actors in the field of multilingualism but weak underdeveloped policies. Local authorities have the autonomy to introduce language policies in certain fields like public services offered in more than one language; street and other signage; events and activities predominantly in the cultural sphere that provide opportunities for different language use.
