TEACHER<\/strong><br \/><strong>IN POLIKRAISHTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract.<\/strong> The work of the priest Georgi Marinov Poluganov (February 15, 1808 \u2013 October 25, 1888 (old style)) \u2013 the most eminent person of Polikraishte, Veliko Tarnovo region, Bulgaria for the entire XIX century is investigated. The results of his work left their mark on the destiny of each and every person of the village in the last 200 years. The emphasis is placed on his contribution to the fi eld of education. He was at the root of the greatest cultural event of the century-long history of the village which overturned thoroughly the life of population \u2013 priest Georgi Marinov Poluganov is the founder of the school in Polikraishte in and the fi rst teacher in it. It is underlined that he was a main fi gure in the second main cultural institution here too \u2013 the church and tirelessly cared for the Orthodox Christian faith and that he was the master mind in the building of the new temple \u201eSt. Marina\u201d in Polikraishte in 1884.<br \/>His role of a talented organizer and one of the basic personage in the two great social-political events in the history of church and village in the XIX century is revealed: the solemn welcome of the fi rst Tirnovo bishop in the establishment of the Bulgarian exarchate Ilarion Makariopolski in 1872 and during his second visit in 1873, and of the Russian liberating forces in 1877, as well as of the inauguration in 1885 by mitropolitan (bishop) Clement (Vassil Drumev) of the nowadays existing church. Special attention is paid on the participation of priest Georgi Marinov Poluganov in the revolutionary committees of the Inner revolutionary organization of Vassil Levski and of the committees for the preparation and declaration of the April uprising in 1876, when he was persecuted by the Turcs and was threatened with hanging.
