&ldquo;School as the Center of the Community&rdquo; model and its implementation in Bulgaria. The model is based on the assumption that the school functions at its best when it is an organic part of a community of students, teachers, parents, organizations and institutions who support each other in the pursuit of the community children&rsquo;s holistic development.&nbsp;At the core of this approach are nine Standards for community schools: Leadership, Partnership, Social Inclusion, Services, Volunteering, Lifelong Learning, Community Development, Parent Engagement, and School Culture; all of them articulated with indicators and examples. These Standards are a tool for self-evaluation of a school&rsquo;s needs and resources, for goal-setting, planning, and outcome measurement.&nbsp;The model was created by an international group of non-profits and is currently used in fourteen countries in Europe and Asia. Since 2015 the model has been piloted in thirteen Bulgarian schools. The Bulgarian participants appreciate the opportunity to work in a systematic way on building community relationships, to exchange and discuss work experiences. Some of the Standards have already emerged as especially significant for the Bulgarian context, while others seem to require adaptation.
