In addition to the well-known Jan Amos Komensk\u00fd<br \/>\n(1592 \u2013 1670), we can also name Gustav Adolf Lindner (1828 \u2013 1887). But for a long time another important pedagogue personality of the 20th century, P\u0159emysl Pitter, remained unknown to the world. In today\u2019s world of intolerance it&#8217;s worthwhile to pay attention to the activities of a man who cherished the values by which he lived his life: \u201cWithout love, without human compassion with one another, nothing will stand\u201d (Pitter 1974). These are the words of the humanist P\u0159emysl Pitter, a Czech\u00a0Protestant-oriented\u00a0thinker, educator, writer, publicist,\u00a0radical pacifist,\u00a0and social worker.\u00a0He founded the famous Prague educational institute\u00a0\u201cMil\u00ed\u010d House\u02ee during the\u00a0Second World War, and\u00a0despite strict prohibitions, he visited and supplied the Jews during that time.\u00a0After the war, he applied for\u00a0confiscated castles around\u00a0Prague, where he took care of impoverished\u00a0German,\u00a0Jewish, Polish,\u00a0Czech,\u00a0and other\u00a0children.\u00a0There was no word of him for many years.\u00a0But why was his\u00a0birth\u00a0declared a UNESCO anniversary?\u00a0Why did he receive one of the\u00a0highest state awards\u00a0of the Czech Republic\u00a0from President V\u00e1clav Havel?\u00a0This text addresses such questions.<br \/>\n<em>Keywords:<\/em>\u00a0P\u0159emysl\u00a0Pitter; Mil\u00ed\u010d\u00a0House;\u00a0Operation\u00a0Castles;\u00a0social work; pedagogue<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/newspaper.azbuki.bg\/en\/member-login\/\">Log in to read the full text<\/a>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ji\u0159\u00ed Prokop Charles University \u2013 Prague (Czech Republic) https:\/\/doi.org\/10.53656\/ped2022-6.02 Abstract.\u00a0The Czechs have given the world many important personalities, including pedagogues.
