Abstract. The article examines the concepts of “Banat speech” and “Palken language” in the context of the aspirations of the Banat Bulgarians to preserve their cultural identity. The study gives examples from contemporary authors, Banat Bulgarians, of the ways in which they perceive the linguistic characteristics of
their work. Data from an online survey conducted in the months of May and June
2023 among Banat Bulgarians were used, which explain the understanding of this
community about its language. Established scientific terminology is reviewed and
recommendations for future researchers are given.
