Abstract. This article presents a part of the research, dedicated to the life and work of one of the most active Bulgarian enlighteners – Todor Ikonomov (1838 – 1892). The article also analyses the contributions of the Bulgarian pedagogues and enlighteners – Stefan Izvorski, Sava Filaretov, Sava Dobroplodni, Iliya Blaskov to the process of inspecting in the eparchy of Varna and Preslav before and after the Liberation.
