Abstract. With increasing competition between higher education institutions in Bulgaria (with 51 public and private HEIs functioning), the consideration of their competitiveness and the search for opportunities to increase it becomes more and more relevant. The aim of the article is to present the concepts of forming the competitiveness of HEIs and to consider the possibilities of unleashing the competitive potential of the education sector through cooperation between science, education and business. Emphasis is also placed on the measures and policies undertaken to create an environment in which integration in this direction is built and realized.
